Amethyst Images grew out of my love for photography. During my college years at RIT, some friends begged me to shoot their wedding. I did so reluctantly--worried about the risk involved. What if the film didn't come out?

All was fine. Then in 1994, I had a wedding of my own. I researched and interviewed many photographers and was happy with what I thought was a great choice. The day flew by and I didn't really remember the details, I was sure the photos would be the perfect record of events. Instead I had many great portraits set against a backdrop with the extra studio lights and I was dissappointed with them. They took too much time to take and didn't tell our story.

I decided at that time to make a go at wedding photography. I was convinced that a less formal, less expensive approach was definitely in order. So I told a few people and they told a few people and eventually I had five weddings that year.

Over the next couple years, I was able to build up my wedding business and to narrow down my niche. The storybook.

In 2000, I officially started the company. Now more than a hobby, I really wanted it to succeed. As luck would have it, 2000 was a booming year for weddings, with the millenium driving brides to the altar. A few ads and some great word of mouth and things have been building steadily ever since.

We shoot an average of 15-20 weddings per year. I like to say that by the end of the day, I feel so close to the bride and groom that I would want to have them over sometime for dinner. And that takes a lot out of a person. To be so involved in getting to know them and in capturing the essence of their relationship on film. So we limit the number of weddings we shoot.

One of the best things about my company is the fact that we are a husband/wife team. We have two angles, two perspectives, two styles and two cameras to document the day. We can be in two places at once. We have two pairs of eyes looking at every pose, and two people to organize the wedding party for the formal shots. And two photographers are better than one.

I hope this brief introduction into my business inspires you to choose vendors that will truly meet your needs, make your day perfect and help the good memories last a lifetime.
